On May 13, NFI had the pleasure of being one of dozens of human service organizations in attendance at the 14th Annual Caring Force Rally and Lobby Day. Held at the Massachusetts State House, the rally brings organizations and workers from across the state together to advocate for a fairer and more equitable human service sector.
This year, more than 600 rallygoers came together to advocate for a livable wage and a sustainable student loan repayment program for human service workers. After the rally, participants met with their local representatives and senators, directly appealing to them to support bills S.119, S.130, H.283, and H.223 in support of a loan repayment program and livable wage for human service workers.
Julia Coelho, NFI’s Evolutions 2 Program Director and Caring Force Captain, had this to say about the event:
“It was inspiring to see such a strong representation of NFI Massachusetts employees at the State House for the 14th Annual Caring Force Rally. Together, we joined fellow advocates in calling for livable wages and student loan repayment support for human services workers
The rally featured powerful remarks from human services workers, highlighting the essential daily support they provide to those we serve. During the event, we were also proud to present the “Caring Bear” Award to Senator Kennedy and Representative Finn in recognition of their ongoing leadership and commitment to advancing these critical legislative efforts
In my program, I witness firsthand the vital role these workers play in helping individuals maximize their potential and thrive in their communities. Their unwavering commitment—showing up each day with compassion and resilience, regardless of prior challenges—and their trauma-informed approach to care are both impactful and transformative. This work is not only meaningful but deserving of fair and sustainable compensation.”
NFI is a member of The Caring Force and has advocated for the fair and equitable treatment of human service workers in Massachusetts. We are a proud sponsor of the Merrimack Valley Rally at Northern Essex Community College on Friday, June 5, where we will be in attendance. You can learn more and register to attend here.
